HVAC Frequently asked questions
Q. How frequently should I replace my air filter?
A. This is the most often asked question. The solution is not always so straightforward. There are numerous factors to consider.
How much do you spend on your heating and cooling system? What kinds of filters do you employ? Do you live on a residential street or on a farm? All of these factors will influence how quickly your filter becomes dirty. Check it frequently, and replace it if it’s discolored or visibly dirty. It’s better to change them too frequently than not often enough. They’re low-cost insurance.
Q. My heating and air conditioning system isn’t working. Should I replace my thermostat?
A. When the system ceases to function, this is frequently the first thing the homeowner suspects. In actuality, thermostat failure is not all that prevalent. It happens, but typically there is something else wrong with the system.
If you’re going to have to call a service person anyhow, be sure you’re not squandering money at the local home improvement store on a new thermostat.
Q. My outdoor air conditioner is filthy. What should I do to clean it?
A. The simplest method is to use a yard hose. Typically, a simple rinse down is all that is required. Turn off the unit and use moderate water pressure to clean out all of the coils. If you use a really high pressure nozzle, you will end up with bent coil fins.
If it hasn’t been cleaned in a while, it may need to be disassembled to be cleaned. Call a qualified HVAC Contractor service technician to conduct the task.
Q. My air conditioner is leaking water. What exactly is going on?
A. Condensation is produced by an air conditioner during regular operation due to the cold coil that the inside air passes over. It’s akin to leaving a glass of ice water out on a hot day and having condensation build on the outside. However, the air conditioner should have a drain system that directs the water somewhere outside.
If you observe water in your closet, garage, or ceilings (depending on where the AC evaporator coil is installed), the drains are clogged and you should contact a service technician.
Q. I have a XXXX brand heat and air system. Do you have the necessary parts?
A. HVAC Contractors keep a big stock of parts on hand for the most prevalent sorts of breakdowns. While it is impossible to have every part for every brand of system, we are likely to have what you require.
Some parts, particularly electronic circuit boards and furnace controls, are frequently unit-specific and must be ordered. The majority of ordered parts arrive within 1 to 3 days.
Q. Do HVAC Contractors charge for simply showing up to my house?
A. In a way. There is no “diagnosis fee” at our clinic. We charge per the hour for repair calls, with a one-hour minimum. That price, though, is for labor, not merely for turning up or making a diagnosis. You are given an hour of labor, which includes repair time.
For example, if your air conditioner isn’t working because of a faulty switch, your service cost will cover the diagnosis as well as the time it takes to replace the part. The majority of minor repairs may be completed in an hour or less. Anything that requires more time will be quoted before we begin.
Q. Will the HVAC Contractor offer me system parts so I can fix it myself?
A. I’m sorry, but no. We are not a retail parts store and cannot provide a warranty for items that have not been installed by us.
Q: Will you be able to repair my water heater, stove, or washing machine?
A. Our HVAC Contractors specialize in residential heating and air conditioning systems but may be able to provide general appliance maintenance – please call us to inquire.
Q. How long is the warranty on repairs?
A. This depends on the services provided. Of course, there are exceptions, with some being longer and others being shorter.
Q. I won’t be able to come home during your normal business hours. Can I still schedule an appointment?
A. We make every effort to accommodate everyone. If you require unique appointment hours, please contact us and we will see what we can do for you.
